Um, Urs? Look at what you've endured and accomplished in your life so far. I think that you're strong, but just haven't gotten around to the cigarette thing - yet.

I wish I could say the same. But maybe I can three years from today. Or maybe three years from tomorrow. Or the day after...
See, I'm horrible.

You should be very proud of yourself.

Ironically, I remember that day, too. I think everyone who loves Stan remembers that day. ;)

My boyfriend's trying to quit...and he's lasted about 2-3 weeks, but sometimes he goes right back. He's not a heavy smoker...only 4-5 ciggies a day. I know he could easily quit. Tips/tricks?

Tips and tricks?
A few previous failed attempts, a terrifying shortness of breath and dogged determination. That, and when the urge spanked me hard I would always repeat a certain line to myself. If you're a Star Trek fan you might recognize the reference...

"I will not smoke, today."
Yes, it's cheesy in the best Captain Kirk tradition but it's the Mantra that helped me talk it through the tough bits.

Oh, and Nicorette gum!

... that you make a point of mentioning this. I fear for myself. I am trying to quit and just can't believe you marked down the date. I feel you are encouraging me. Congratulations!

Re: Amazing!...

Thank you! Good luck to you in your difficult but worthwhile undertaking, I really hope that you can pull it off.
If it helps, think of all the people and corporations that are profitting from your habit; they're liars and underhanded cheats, all. I found that that indignation helped me dig my heels in for the long haul. Any tool helps.

And 3 years ago today I said I was going to try to quit. (as i'm about to head out the door to smoke one). the only good news i have on that subject is since i've moved in here, it took me 3 days to go through a pack. i was up to a pack a day. only a small victory but a victory still in my book! not to mention, once i run through the 2 cartons i bought before leaving ohio, i'm not buying anymore. they're $5 a pack here in ny. ouch.

Re: wowee

Good for you, Jennifer! Stick by your guns and by this time next year (give or take a week) you could be a one-year non-smoker. :)
