So does having one's salary 4 years behind the cost of inflation.

How will it affect the students? Well, the Fine Arts Student council is behind us, as are some of the students from the other small colleges and institutes. I saw a supportive placard posted in the window of the Simone de Beauvoir Institute.

Did the strike disrupt the students? Well, yes; as did it disrupt the second level of managers who, hopefully, will come to realize and appreciate the amount and quality of work that we do and send a message to their own superiors that something has got to be done about getting our contract signed so that we can all get back to running the university smoothly.

i wasn't dissing the strike, i'm sorry that you seem to have taken it that way. i hope that the strike is not a long one and that your union does a good job in getting you all fair wages. because long strike negotiations hurt everyone.

what i meant in my comment about the "poor" students is that you would think that they would be more supportive of unionized workers.

Hiya. No harm, no foul.
I didn't think that you you were dissing the strike but I see how you could have thought that I thought you were. I'm very dry when I'm only recently awake so I tend to come off as brusque. My intention was only to be as clear in my thoughts and explanations as possible.
She shoots, SHE SCORES!!

What exactly does this whole strike thing entail?

The union was trying to kick-start stalled negotiations with management.

We haven't had a new contract in over four years and you can imagine how grim having salaries that have fallen that far behind inflation can be.

amen. (though I'm not putting a lot of hope that that ever happens)
