I saw a maple today that had but one leaf on it. It reminded me of that story about the man who painted a vine leaf on a wall so that the young girl who had determined that she would survive whatever disease she had at the time as long as there was still a leaf left on the ivy climbing up the wall opposite her bedroom window.
I can't remember the author's name.

We also saw a funeral procession go by - against the lights. I usually get pretty somber, but this time my blood was ready to leap out of my veins when I witnessed a bunch of ignorant assholes in their SUV's trying to hurry the marchers by honking impatiently. I swear, if I had a rocket launcher.....

[edit to add a happy thought] Oh, forgot. I bought a cutlass, a pistol and a gold-coloured earing so next year my Pirate outfit will rule; unless I go as a lego block like I was thinking of doing this year.

When I read, I bought a cutlass, I thought you meant a car. Silly me.

Mmmm, LEGO block as a costume is a great idea!

I'm just waiting for another election to hapen so that I can salvage all that plast-core that they make election signs from. That stuff is an excellent costume building material. :)

it was O. Henry, i think the story was called "The Last Leaf"... my parents made me watch the movie version of it every Christmas for several years when I was young.
